FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Q. What is dog agility?
Dog agility is a competitive sport in
which a handler directs his dog over
a timed obstacle course, with
scoring based on faults as in
equestrian jumping events. Because
of its fast pace and simple, objective
scoring system, dog agility has
become an exciting spectator sport.
Q. What obstacles are used?
The approved obstacles for dog
agility are the A-frame, weave
poles, table, pause box, see-saw or
teeter, dog walk, cross-over, pipe
tunnel, collapsed tunnel, and
assorted jumps and hurdles
(including the broad jump, tire
jump, high jump, bar jump, double
bar jump, and spread jump).
Q. Can mix-breeds
partcipated in agility?
Yes. It is frequently said that dog
agility is a sport for all dogs, in that
the sport permits both purebred and
mixed-bred dogs to compete.
ACCW sponsors NADAC and AKC
venues, both which allow
mix-breeds to compete. One
should be aware however, that not
all breeds are well suited for the
sport because of physical build.
Q. How old should my dog be
to start agility training?
You and your puppy can participate in
Agility Club classes or seminars when the
pup's around the age of 4 to 6 months,
depending on your situation. You will not
be allowed to have your puppy jumping at
any club-sponsored training activity until
they are 15 months or older. Safety must
be a top priority!
Q. Should we complete an
obedience class before starting
agility?
Absolutely a great idea! Although this
depends on the age, sex and maturity of
your dog, and on your dog training
experience, it's almost always beneficial for
you and your dog to attend a beginner's or
basic obedience class. Puppy kindergarten
classes also help with socialization and
your 'trainer' abilities. The Agility Club
doesn't offer obedience classes. However,
other local dog clubs and individuals offer
obedience classes, which are announced
or advertised in the local newspapers.
Q. Can anyone - everyone -
bring their dogs to
club-sponsored training?
Yes, BUT, there are some
restrictions per club training policies:
* All people present need to sign in
on the attendance sheet at training
sessions and minors need a parent's
or guardian's written permission.
* Attendance of an "Intro to Agility"
seminar, or successful completion of
the Foundation class, is a
prerequisite to participation at
training sessions for all new
participants. Participants may be
exempted from this requirement if
they can show proficiency in agility
training.

Wyoming (ACCW)?

Q. Are there any agility
fun matches or trials in
Casper?
The club has been holding two
2-day NADAC trials and two 3-day
AKC trials. In addition to trials, the
club holds fun days and matches
throughout the year. The sport of
AGILITY is gaining popularity
because it is FUN! See our Calendar
